Molecular Hydrogen and You
What if the water you drink holds the key to unlocking a longer and healthier life?
Molecular Hydrogen may indeed hold the key to a better, healthier you.
What is Molecular Hydrogen?
According to the Molecular Hydrogen Institute, molecular hydrogen has a chemical symbol of H2 and is also known as diatomic hydrogen. Diatomic hydrogen is also a tasteless, odorless, flammable gas.
Now that we know what molecular hydrogen is, what does that mean to us?
Again, according the the Molecular Hydrogen Institute, "H2 reduces oxidative stress and improves redox homeostasis." It also "regulates levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, etc." Further, "H2, like other gaseous-signaling molecules, modulates signal transduction, protein phosphorylation, and gene expression, which provides its anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, and anti-apoptotic protective effects."
Let's delve into this a little bit more. What is oxidative stress?
According to Medical News Today, "Oxidative stress is an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants in the body, which can lead to cell and tissue damage. Oxidative stress occurs naturally and plays a role in the aging process." There you go, right there it says that oxidative stress leads to aging. Reducing oxidative stress can lead to improved cells and tissues in the body. So we see that molecular hydrogen can lead to a longer, healthier life.
What else can it do?
According to blog post by Jill Carnahan, MD, molecular hydrogen (please note that each of these has links to studies on her blog post):
- Acts as an antioxidant
- Supports your body's antioxidant system
- Is anti-inflammatory
- May help reduce pain
- Protects your muscles
- Can speed up sport-related recovery
- Can help balance the pH of the blood
- Affects cell modulation positively
- Is neuroprotective
- Is protective against metabolic conditions
- Boosts your mitochondria
- Protects against DNA damage
- Can calm allergic reactions
- Is protective against cancer
- Helps protect organs
In summation, molecular hydrogen can indeed hold the key to a longer lasting, healthier you.
