The concept of Whole Body Vibration (WBV) has been around for a lot longer than you may think, with the idea stretching back even before Isaac Newton discovered gravity. Some of the earliest WBV ideas date back as far as the 8th century BC in Ancient Greece.
The Ancient Greek Healing Instrument
Ancient Greek society had a few military conflicts in which Grecian doctors would work their healing magic to help usher soldiers back to the battlefield. One of the tools that the doctors used was a wooden instrument that had strings. The instrument would be played over the soldiers’ wounds. It was found that this vibration helped the soldier’s healing. While this instrument wasn't exactly a WBV machine by today's standards, it is the earliest known use of vibration as a healing tool.
Vibration Therapy in the 1800s
Doctor Jonas Gustav Zander, from Sweden, invented over 70 different types of exercise equipment during the 1850s. With these different apparatus, Dr. Zander established the precursor to the modern gym. Some of these machines that he invented utilized vibration therapy to help with muscle gain and weight loss in his patients.
Furthering Doctor Zander’s work, Dr. John Kellogg (of the cereal brand) would create the first whole body vibration machine. This machine was Dr. Kellogg’s magic “pill” that would be able to cure any number of ailments including constipation, headaches and back pain. His machine involved a chair that would shake in order to fix any number of issues.
Russia’s Shaking Systems and Modern Whole Body Vibration
East Germany started looking into the benefits of vibration technology during the 1960s. Because of their advancements, the Soviet Union, during this timeframe, started to look into the use of whole body vibration for its cosmonaut space program.
The Soviets found that in zero-gravity situations the body would deteriorate. The vibration machines could help with bone regeneration and would help with the cosmonauts. In 1995, the Russians sent a cosmonaut into space and utilized whole body vibration to keep his body in shape. This continued studying of whole body vibration has led us to where we are today.
New studies are being released every week about the benefits of whole body vibration. You can find one of the best whole body vibration machine available right here on our site.
